Description

This is a wall-mounted can crusher with a long lever handle: drop the empty can into the chamber, pull the handle down, and it comes out flattened to roughly a fifth of its original height. It fixes to a wall or the side of a cupboard with screws, so it stays put and can be worked one-handed while the other hand feeds the next can.

It earns its place anywhere empties pile up faster than the recycling gets collected — pubs and clubs after a busy weekend, offices, workshops, garages and households that get through a lot of canned drinks. The main things to check before ordering are the can sizes it takes and the wall you're fixing it to: a crusher needs a solid fixing to take the leverage, and a hollow plasterboard wall will need proper fixings rather than the screws in the box. Rinse cans first if you'd rather not have sticky residue building up in the chamber.

Questions about this product

What size cans will a can crusher take?

Most wall-mounted crushers handle standard 330ml drinks cans, and larger models take 440ml and 500ml cans as well. Check the variant before ordering, since a crusher sized only for 330ml cans won't close properly on a 500ml one. None of them are designed for steel food tins, which are much thicker than an aluminium drinks can and can damage the mechanism.

What do I need to fit one to the wall?

A solid fixing point. The lever generates real leverage, so a crusher screwed into plasterboard alone will work loose quickly. Fix it to a timber stud, masonry with the right plugs, or the side of a solid cupboard carcass. Mount it at a comfortable height u2014 roughly waist to chest level u2014 so you can pull the handle down through its full travel without stooping or reaching.
