Description

This dispenser holds a bundle of straws upright inside a stainless steel tube and covers them with a hinged lid, so straws stay closed off from dust, spills and passing hands until someone needs one. It takes standard bar straws — most drinking straws around 20cm, paper or plastic — though long cocktail stirrers or oversized novelty straws may stick up above the lid and won't close in properly. Lift the lid, take a straw, and let it drop shut, so nothing is left loose for anyone else to handle.

An open jar of straws exposes every straw to hands, dust and anything that splashes nearby, and there's no way to know which ones have already been touched and put back. A lidded dispenser keeps that contact to the one straw someone actually takes. To refill, lift the whole lid off, drop in a fresh bundle, and replace it. Wash the tube and lid in warm soapy water regularly, and dry it fully before refilling — straws left damp turn soft and start to smell.

Why use a straw dispenser instead of a jar of straws?

An open jar exposes every straw inside it to hands, dust and anything that splashes near the bar, and there's no way to know which straws have already been touched and put back. A lidded dispenser keeps straws covered until one is actually pulled out, so only the straw someone takes has been handled. It's a small change, but on a bar that's serving drinks all evening, it noticeably cuts down on straws being picked up, considered, and dropped back into a shared container.

What size straws fit in the dispenser?

It's designed for standard drinking straws, paper or plastic, at typical lengths of around 19-21cm u2014 the size used for most soft drinks and cocktails. Long cocktail stirrers, giant milkshake straws or novelty shapes may be too tall to sit under the lid properly, so check the length of your straws against the tube before assuming everything will fit. If you mainly serve oversized straws, a taller or open container designed for that length will work better than this dispenser.
