Description

At 40cm this is the longest bar spoon in the range, with the same full-length twisted shaft as our standard spoons but a plain rounded disc at the top end rather than a masher, knob or fork. The disc gives you a smooth, weighted surface to pour against when layering a drink, and the extra length is there for reach — tall Collins and hurricane glasses, jugs, punch bowls and pitchers where a 30cm spoon leaves you dipping your fingers in.

For a standard rocks glass or mixing glass, 40cm is longer than you need and less comfortable to control than our 30cm spoon. This one is a size choice for specific glassware, not an upgrade on the shorter spoons. If you regularly make drinks in tall glasses or batch cocktails in a jug or punch bowl, the extra length is genuinely useful; if you mostly stir in a standard mixing glass, buy the 30cm version instead.

Questions about this product

When do I actually need a 40cm bar spoon?

When your glassware or vessel is deep enough that a standard 30cm spoon won't comfortably reach the bottom u2014 tall Collins or hurricane glasses, jugs, pitchers, and punch bowls used for batched cocktails. In a normal rocks glass or mixing glass, the extra length just makes the spoon harder to control precisely, so it isn't a general upgrade. Choose it based on the glassware you actually use most, not as a step up from the shorter spoons.

Does the rounded disc end do anything different to a masher?

It's smooth rather than textured, so it's suited to layering u2014 pouring slowly and steadily down the back of the spoon to build distinct layers in a drink u2014 rather than crushing sugar or fruit. The weight and smooth surface give you a stable point to pour against, which matters more as the spoon gets longer. If you want a spoon that also mashes, choose one of the masher-end versions instead; this one is built purely for stirring and layering at length.
