Description

This stopper fits over the neck of an opened bottle of champagne or sparkling wine and clamps down with a hinged lever, sealing tightly enough to hold in pressure and slow the loss of fizz. It's a different job to a still wine re-sealer, since sparkling wine needs a seal that can cope with the carbonation pushing back against it, not just keep air out.

It's useful anywhere sparkling wine gets opened and not finished in one sitting — bars, restaurants, events, or simply a home bottle that's too much for one occasion. It's worth being realistic about what it does: it will noticeably slow the loss of fizz overnight or for a day, but it won't keep a bottle sparkling indefinitely, and very old or already-flat sparkling wine won't come back. It's designed to fit standard champagne and sparkling wine bottle necks; unusually shaped or non-standard bottles may not seal as tightly.

Questions about this product

How long does a champagne stopper keep sparkling wine fizzy?

It noticeably slows the loss of carbonation, typically keeping a bottle reasonably fizzy for a day or so in the fridge, though this depends on how sparkling the wine was to begin with and how it's stored. It won't preserve fizz indefinitely, so it's best treated as a way to save a bottle overnight rather than for long-term storage.

Will it fit any sparkling wine bottle?

It's made to fit standard champagne and sparkling wine bottle necks, which covers the great majority of what's sold in the UK. A small number of non-standard or unusually shaped necks may not get as tight a seal, so it's worth checking the fit on an unfamiliar bottle before relying on it for extended storage.
